Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Chongfu School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Chongfu School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Chongfu School traces its origins to 1915, when it was established as Chong Hock Girls' School by Mr. Wang Huiyi under the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. Originally located along Telok Ayer Street, the school served as a girls' institution with Hokkien as the medium of instruction. It transitioned to co-educational status in 1949, moved to its current Yishun campus in 1985, and was officially renamed Chongfu School in 2010. The school marked its centennial in 2015 with a commemorative concert celebrating its long history.

Today, Chongfu operates as a government-aided co-educational primary school with a philosophy centred on values-driven learning, bilingualism, and character development. The school motto, Sincerity and Perseverance, is shared with other institutions under the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and reflects the emphasis on dedication and integrity that runs through its programmes. As a non-SAP school, Chongfu offers Higher Mother Tongue options in Chinese, Malay, and Tamil, supporting students from varied linguistic backgrounds.

Admission Process

Primary 1 registration at Chongfu School follows the standard MOE framework. Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling already enrolled at the school. Phase 2A is open to children of alumni, staff members, or advisory committee members. Phase 2B accommodates children of parent volunteers who have contributed at least 40 hours of service, as well as those endorsed by community or church leaders. Phase 2C is available to all remaining Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Applications are submitted through the MOE Primary 1 Registration portal during designated windows each year. When applications exceed available places in any phase, balloting is conducted with priority given to families residing within one kilometre of the school, followed by those within one to two kilometres. Parents should consult the MOE admissions page for the latest registration schedule and vacancy updates.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Chongfu School's curriculum covers the core MOE subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Science, and Mother Tongue Languages, with Foundation-level options available for students who benefit from additional support. Social Studies, Physical Education, Music, and Art complete the timetable across Primary 1 to Primary 6.

The school's Applied Learning Programme (ALP) focuses on Innovation and Enterprise through the Chongfu Design Thinkers' Programme, which engages students in hands-on, project-based learning to develop creative problem-solving skills. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Sports and Outdoor Education, titled Growing Character through Sports and Outdoor Education, builds teamwork, perseverance, and resilience through physical activity and outdoor experiences.

In Mathematics, Chongfu runs several enrichment initiatives. The Math Games Programme uses board games and structured challenges to strengthen problem-solving skills in an engaging format. Students also participate in the National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore from Primary 1 onwards, developing logical reasoning from an early age. The school employs the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach to make mathematical concepts more accessible through manipulatives and visual representations before moving to abstract notation. For families seeking additional structured practice outside school hours, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers programmes aligned to the primary Mathematics syllabus.

Chongfu students have earned Silver and Bronze awards in national mathematics competitions, and graduates have gone on to perform well at the PSLE, with students regularly achieving strong results across subjects including Mathematics.
