What your child gets at DeepThink

Secondary Math is not one-size-fits-all. A G1 student preparing for the SEC exam needs completely different content from a G3 student heading for A-Math. We keep streams in separate classes so every session is relevant.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does my child's stream affect which class they join at DeepThink?

Yes. G1, G2, and G3 students each have their own class, so every lesson matches the exact syllabus and exam format your child is sitting.

My child is doing okay in S1/S2 but I'm worried about the jump to S3. Is it too early to start?

S3 is where most students hit a wall — the syllabus gets significantly harder, A-Math is new, and SEC exam (or O-Level for the current Sec 4 cohort) prep begins. Students who build strong foundations in S1–S2 handle that jump far better. Starting early is the highest-leverage move a parent can make.

When is the right time for a secondary student to start tuition?

S1 is ideal — algebra gaps from the start of secondary compound quickly and are harder to fix later. That said, students who join in S3 or S4 can still benefit significantly from targeted exam preparation.

What makes DeepThink different for secondary students?

Stream-specific classes. Every lesson, worked example, and past-year paper is matched to your child's stream.

School Overview

Established in 1939 at 60 Kim Yam Road, Chung Cheng High School (Main) was founded by a group of philanthropists, including Aw Boon Haw, with the goal of providing Chinese-medium education during the colonial period. Originally an all-boys institution, the school became co-educational after World War II. In 1987, it relocated to its present campus along Marine Parade.

Today, Chung Cheng High School (Main) operates as a government-aided autonomous school and is one of Singapore's 11 Special Assistance Plan (SAP) schools. The SAP designation means students develop strong bilingual proficiency in both English and Chinese, with the school drawing on Confucian values of diligence and integrity as part of its educational philosophy. It is affiliated with Nanyang Primary School for primary-to-secondary transitions, and with Nanyang Junior College for post-secondary progression. The school also offers the Language Elective Programme (LEP) in Chinese and the Enhanced Music Programme, providing additional depth in language and the arts.

Admission Process

Entry to Chung Cheng High School (Main) at Secondary 1 is through the PSLE posting exercise or the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme.

For the 2025 intake, the indicative PSLE cut-off points were 6(M) to 9(P) for affiliated students in Posting Group 3, with non-affiliated students requiring approximately 9P. Students with Higher Chinese Language merits may receive priority consideration. As a SAP school, Chung Cheng does not offer the Integrated Programme; students follow the O-Level track with pathways suited to bilingual learners.

The DSA scheme allows Primary 6 students to apply based on demonstrated talent before PSLE results are released. For the 2025 cycle, DSA categories included sports such as Basketball and Badminton, performing arts, and academic strength in Chinese Language. Applications are typically submitted through the MOE DSA portal between May and July, followed by trials or interviews for shortlisted candidates.

The school participates in Full Subject-Based Banding, which gives students the flexibility to take subjects at different levels according to their individual strengths. Families interested in learning more about the school environment can attend the annual Open House, most recently held on 15 November 2025.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Chung Cheng High School (Main) follows the Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level syllabus. Core subjects include English Language, Mathematics (Elementary and Additional), the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), and Humanities (Social Studies combined with Geography, History, or Literature). As a SAP school, students take Higher Chinese and have access to Literature in Chinese, as well as the Language Elective Programme for deeper immersion in the Chinese language.

Additional subjects on offer include Art, Higher Art, Higher Music, Music, Malay Language (Special Programme), Appreciation of Chinese Culture, and Physical Education. The full subject list may vary by cohort and year.

Mathematics is a core strength at the school. Elementary Mathematics builds a solid foundation, while Additional Mathematics extends into topics that prepare students for A-Level and tertiary STEM pathways. The school has maintained pass rates above 95 percent in key subjects, and recent cohorts have achieved average L1R5 scores of around 10 raw points, enabling graduates to progress to junior colleges. For families seeking additional support in Mathematics alongside the school's programme, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured classes aligned with the O-Level syllabus.

Beyond the examined curriculum, students participate in robotics initiatives, leadership development through Values in Action projects, and bilingual debating programmes that strengthen critical thinking and communication skills.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The Marine Parade campus features air-conditioned classrooms fitted with interactive whiteboards, a well-stocked library with bilingual resources, science and computer laboratories, and a multi-purpose sports complex with indoor courts and fitness facilities. Dedicated arts studios and a performing arts hall support the school's creative programmes, and green spaces around the campus contribute to student well-being.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are a core part of the school experience, with over 30 options available across four categories.

Sports: Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Wushu.

Uniformed Groups: National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC), St John Brigade, Scouts, Girl Guides, and National Cadet Corps (Land).

Performing Arts: Chinese Orchestra, Choir, Concert Band, Modern Dance, Chinese Drama, English Drama, and Lion and Dragon Dance.

Clubs and Societies: Art and Crafts, Chinese Calligraphy and Brush Painting, Chinese Chess, Digital Media, and Robotics.

CCA participation supports character development, teamwork, and leadership, and can also serve as a basis for DSA applications to junior colleges and other institutions.

Student Life and School Culture

Chung Cheng High School (Main) fosters a school culture centred on resilience, inclusivity, and mutual respect. The school operates a single session, with class sizes typically ranging from 30 to 40 students and a teacher-to-student ratio of approximately 1:15.

Pastoral care is provided through form teachers, a counselling team, and programmes that address well-being, anti-bullying awareness, and social-emotional development. Values such as perseverance and integrity are reinforced through school assemblies, mentorship initiatives, and community engagement projects.

For students transitioning from primary school, the adjustment to secondary school routines can be significant. The school supports this through buddy systems and orientation programmes that help new students settle in and build connections with their peers.
