Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Fuhua Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Fuhua Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Fuhua Primary School traces its origins to 18 July 1941, when it opened as Fu Hua Public School — a Chinese-medium village school situated along Upper Jurong Road. The school transitioned to government-aided status around 1960 and moved to its present site in 1984, at which point it was renamed Fuhua Primary School. The name carries the meaning "rich and splendid" in Chinese, a nod to the school's heritage. With more than 84 years of continuous operation, Fuhua is one of the longer-established primary schools in the Jurong area.

Fuhua operates as a government co-educational, single-session school under the Ministry of Education. Its vision centres on developing every child as a lifelong learner, responsible leader, and gracious citizen, while its mission is to build a vibrant learning community where each individual experiences success. The school motto emphasises frugality and honesty. Fuhua received the ASEAN Eco-School Award in 2012 and became the first primary school in Singapore to be conferred the President's Award for the Environment in 2013, reflecting its sustained commitment to environmental education.

Admission Process

Admission to Primary 1 at Fuhua Primary School follows the standard MOE registration framework, which proceeds through several phases.

Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently enrolled at the school. Phase 2A gives priority to children of alumni who are members of the school advisory committee, children of school staff, and children from feeder schools or affiliated kindergartens, where applicable. Phase 2B covers children whose parent has volunteered at the school for at least 40 hours, is a member of a church or clan directly connected to the school, or is endorsed by a community leader. Phase 2C is open to all Singapore citizen and permanent resident children who have not secured a place in earlier phases. Phase 2C Supplementary provides a final round for any remaining vacancies.

When applications exceed available places in any phase, priority is given first to Singapore citizens, then to permanent residents. Within each citizenship category, children living within 1 km of the school are prioritised, followed by those within 1 to 2 km. Balloting is conducted if there are still more applicants than places.

All applications are submitted online via the MOE Primary 1 Registration portal during the designated windows each year. Parents should refer to the MOE website for the latest registration dates and documentary requirements.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Fuhua Primary School follows the national curriculum set by MOE, covering English Language, Mathematics, Science (from Primary 3), Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, and Tamil), Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Both foundation and standard levels are available in core subjects to cater to students with different learning needs, supporting multiple PSLE pathways.

The school's Applied Learning Programme (ALP) focuses on STEM through the theme of transportation, titled "Students As Designers for the 21st Century." This programme integrates Mathematics and Science concepts through hands-on design projects, giving students opportunities to apply classroom learning to practical problems. The approach is intended to develop problem-solving and analytical thinking from an early age.

Mother Tongue instruction is offered at standard and higher levels, and the school has demonstrated strength in language programmes — students have achieved recognition in Malay language competitions, among other areas. Bilingual development is a core part of the school's educational approach.

For families seeking additional support in Mathematics alongside the school curriculum, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the primary school syllabus, helping students build confidence and fluency in mathematical reasoning.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

Fuhua Primary School underwent PERI upgrading in 2018, followed by a campus extension completed in 2019, resulting in modernised learning spaces across the school. Facilities include technology-equipped classrooms, a library, science and innovation laboratories, and dedicated rooms for performing arts and CCAs. The school also maintains eco-gardens and outdoor learning areas that support its environmental education programmes.

Co-Curricular Activities are organised across sports, performing arts, and clubs. Sports options include badminton, netball (girls), and football (boys). In performing arts, students can participate in the choir, brass band, guzheng ensemble, modern dance, or Chinese dance — the choir has received recognition at events such as the Singapore International Choral Festival. Clubs and societies include Design and Innovation, Infocomm Technology (covering computing and media production), Art and Crafts, and Environmental Science. Modular CCAs are available for younger students, allowing them to sample different activities before committing to a regular CCA.

The school also provides special educational needs support officers and runs the P1 TRANSIT programme, which assists Primary 1 students with their social and behavioural adjustment to school life.

Student Life and School Culture

Fuhua Primary School's culture is shaped by its Learning for Life Programme (LLP), titled "Environmental Champions @ FHPS," which weaves environmental stewardship, community service, and student leadership into daily school life. Through this programme, students participate in projects that develop a sense of responsibility toward the environment and their community. In 2023, the school earned Three Stars in the Green Schools @ Southwest Award, recognising student contributions to public health, environmental protection, and junior leadership.

Character development is given significant emphasis alongside academic progress. The school's values framework guides student conduct and is reinforced through pastoral care, school assemblies, and structured leadership opportunities. A student received the Lee Kuan Yew All-Round Excellence Award in 2024, highlighting the school's commitment to recognising achievement across multiple dimensions.

Parent engagement is encouraged through the Parent-Teacher Association, volunteering opportunities, and participation in school events and environmental initiatives. The school operates from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays, with core curriculum hours running in the morning session.

As a government primary school, Fuhua charges no tuition fees for Singapore citizens. Miscellaneous fees are approximately $13 per month. Permanent residents and international students pay higher fees in accordance with MOE's published schedule. The school is accessible via public transport, with bus services nearby and Jurong East MRT station within reach.
