Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School (KCPPS) has its origins in 1924, when Reverend Tay Sek Tin and Reverend Tan Leng Tian established Choon Guan English School. Over the following decades, the institution underwent several mergers — incorporating Kuo Chuan Girls' School and Presbyterian Boys' School — before adopting its current name in 1987 upon relocating to its Bishan campus. As a government-aided, co-educational school under the Presbyterian Church in Singapore, KCPPS serves students from Primary 1 through Primary 6.

The school holds Special Assistance Plan (SAP) status, which means it offers Higher Chinese Language alongside the standard mother tongue options. Its guiding educational approach centres on the Applied Learning Programme (ALP) known as E-Cube (Engage, Excite, Express), which focuses on language skills and expressive communication. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP), titled "Let's Think Design!", introduces students to visual arts and design thinking. Together, these programmes aim to develop creativity, critical thinking, and confident expression across all year levels.

Admission Process

Admission to KCPPS follows the Ministry of Education's annual Primary 1 Registration Exercise, which proceeds through several phases. Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently enrolled at the school. Phase 2A covers children of alumni members, staff, or those connected to the school's advisory or management committee. Phase 2B is open to children whose parents have volunteered at the school or who are members of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore. Phase 2C is available to all Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children who were not admitted in earlier phases.

When applications in any phase exceed available places, balloting is conducted. Priority is given based on citizenship status and home-to-school distance. All applications are submitted online through the MOE Primary 1 Registration portal during the designated registration period each year.

KCPPS is affiliated with Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School. Graduates who list the secondary school as their first choice during the Secondary 1 posting exercise receive priority consideration for admission, providing a smoother transition within the Presbyterian school network.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

The core curriculum at KCPPS covers English Language, Mathematics, Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, or Tamil), and Science from Primary 3 onwards. Students also take Art, Music, Physical Education, and Social Studies throughout their six years. As a SAP school, KCPPS provides both foundation and higher mother tongue options, with particular depth in Chinese Language instruction.

The Mathematics programme emphasises conceptual understanding through teacher-facilitated questioning and student-led activities. Lessons incorporate real-world applications and hands-on exploration to build problem-solving skills progressively from lower to upper primary. Students have participated in mathematics and science competitions at both national and international levels, with recent cohorts earning recognition in regional mathematics olympiads.

The E-Cube ALP integrates language learning with STEM elements, encouraging students to communicate ideas through inquiry-based projects. The school also runs its P1 TRANSIT programme to support new students in adjusting to the primary school environment, with a focus on social readiness and foundational literacy and numeracy skills. For families seeking additional support in mathematics beyond school hours, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the primary Mathematics syllabus.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

KCPPS is situated at 8 Bishan Street 13, Singapore 579793, and is accessible via Bishan MRT station and several bus routes. The campus includes standard facilities for a government-aided primary school, with classrooms equipped for interactive learning, a resource library, and outdoor spaces including a garden and multipurpose courts.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are offered across four categories and are available to students from Primary 1 to Primary 6 on a modular basis.

Sports and Games: Badminton, basketball, football (boys), swimming, track and field, table tennis, artistic gymnastics, and rope skipping.

Uniformed Groups: Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade.

Performing Arts: Choir, guitar ensemble, concert band, Chinese dance (girls), and English drama.

Clubs and Societies: Art and crafts, digital media, and strategy games.

The school has also fielded teams in the International Science Drama Competition and robotics events, connecting CCA participation to broader STEM learning. These activities are designed to develop teamwork, discipline, and creative thinking alongside the academic programme.

Student Life and School Culture

School life at KCPPS is shaped by its Christian heritage and a values-driven approach to education. Character development is woven into daily routines, with an emphasis on respect, responsibility, and service to others. The school's philosophy centres on nurturing each child as an individual learner within a supportive community.

Parent involvement is actively encouraged through orientation sessions, school events, and volunteer opportunities tied to the P1 Registration Exercise. The school maintains open communication channels with families, recognising that partnership between home and school supports student well-being and growth.

The bilingual environment is a defining feature of student life at KCPPS. As a SAP school, there is a strong culture of Chinese language usage alongside English, with cultural programmes and activities that deepen students' appreciation of their linguistic heritage. Students across all levels participate in Values-in-Action projects and school-wide events that build a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
