Small group
Every student gets individual attention
Small-group Primary Math classes where every child gets individual attention — and the skills to show it in exams.
Established in 1948 at Geylang Road as a Buddhist mission school, Maha Bodhi School has evolved into a cornerstone of Singapore’s educational tapestry. DeepThink's Primary Math programme is designed to support Maha Bodhi School students from P1 through P6.
Established in 1948 at Geylang Road as a Buddhist mission school, Maha Bodhi School has evolved into a cornerstone of Singapore’s educational tapestry. Key milestones include its relocation to Lorong 34 Geylang in 1951, transition to government-aided status in 1957, and move to its current serene campus at 69 Bartley Road in 1970.
Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at Maha Bodhi School
Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd
From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks
Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions
Each weekly session builds directly on the last. Your child works through new concepts, revisits gaps, and practises exam-style questions — in a group small enough that the teacher actually knows them.
Every student gets individual attention
Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Maha Bodhi School.
Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.
There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.
Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.
Maha Bodhi School began as a Buddhist mission school on Geylang Road in 1948. It relocated to Lorong 34 Geylang in 1951, became a government-aided institution in 1957, and moved to its present site at 69 Bartley Road in 1970. Under Principal Mr. Foo Soo Luang, who led the school from 1971 to 1996, it made significant progress in bilingual education and community involvement. The school marked its 52nd anniversary in 2000 with alumni celebrations.
As a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school, Maha Bodhi places strong emphasis on bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese. The school's educational approach is grounded in Buddhist values of compassion and mindfulness, combined with a commitment to developing well-rounded students. It is affiliated with Manjusri Secondary School, providing graduating students with a priority admission pathway to continue their education.
Enrolment at Maha Bodhi School follows the annual MOE Primary 1 Registration Exercise. Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently attending the school. Phase 2A covers children of alumni and those connected to the school through staff or advisory roles. Phase 2B applies to families with community or church ties, as well as parent volunteers. Phase 2C is open to all remaining applicants, with priority given based on home-to-school distance.
Applications are submitted online through the MOE portal during the designated registration window each year. When applications in any phase exceed the number of available places, a ballot is conducted. In Phase 2C, children living within 1 km of the school are given first priority, followed by those within 1 to 2 km. Parents should refer to the MOE website for the most current registration timeline and vacancy information.
Maha Bodhi School follows the standard MOE primary curriculum, covering English Language, Chinese Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Higher Chinese Language is available for students who demonstrate strong aptitude, while Foundation-level options exist in English, Chinese, Mathematics, and Science to support students who benefit from a different pace. Art, Music, and Physical Education round out the programme.
The school's Applied Learning Programme (ALP), known as ELECTRA@MBS, develops students as empathetic listeners, effective communicators, and advocates for meaningful causes. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP) centres on Music and Performing Arts through the Learning through an Ethnic Arts Programme (LEAP), which gives students exposure to traditional art forms and cultural performance.
Maha Bodhi holds an annual Math and Science Fiesta during Term 3, where students participate in hands-on challenges and experiments that bring mathematical and scientific concepts to life. The school has a strong track record at the PSLE, with eleven Prime Minister's Book Prize recipients between 1977 and 2015 — an award recognising top bilingual performance. In 2022, 47 students received outstanding performance awards, and eight were recognised for the greatest improvement in their PSLE results. Students looking for additional support in primary Mathematics may find structured programmes at DeepThink, a math tuition centre, helpful for reinforcing classroom learning.
The Bartley Road campus features barrier-free accessibility and classrooms fitted with interactive smart boards for collaborative learning. The school has a well-stocked library, science laboratories, and outdoor learning areas with green spaces used for mindfulness and nature-based activities. Dedicated resource corners provide manipulatives and digital tools for Mathematics learning.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are available across a wide range of interests for students from Primary 1 to Primary 6. Sports options include Badminton, Basketball, Wushu, and Tchoukball. Performing arts groups encompass the Chinese Orchestra, Choir, Guzheng Ensemble, Chinese Dance, English Drama, and Concert Band. The Concert Band has received recognition as Best Symphonic Band of the Year. Clubs and societies cover Art and Crafts, Debating, Chinese Calligraphy, Robotics, and Chinese Chess. Uniformed groups such as Scouts provide opportunities for community service and character development. The Robotics Club, which falls under the ALP, involves students in coding and problem-solving activities.
Maha Bodhi School operates as a co-educational, single-session primary school serving boys and girls from Primary 1 through Primary 6. Its culture is shaped by Buddhist principles, with moral education woven into daily school life alongside the SAP framework's emphasis on Chinese language and cultural appreciation.
The school supports students with social and behavioural needs through the P1 TRANSIT programme, which helps Primary 1 students adjust to the primary school environment. The Outstanding Performance Award Ceremony (OPAC), held annually, celebrates student achievements across academic, co-curricular, and character domains — the 21st ceremony took place in April 2025.
Alumni of the school have gone on to careers in education, public service, engineering, and data analytics. The school's combination of bilingual rigour, values-based education, and broad co-curricular offerings aims to prepare students not just for the PSLE but for longer-term personal and academic growth.
