About Mayflower Primary School

Founded: 1979

How DeepThink supports Mayflower Primary School students

  • Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at Mayflower Primary School

  • Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd

  • From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks

  • Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions

What your child gets at DeepThink

Each weekly session builds directly on the last. Your child works through new concepts, revisits gaps, and practises exam-style questions — in a group small enough that the teacher actually knows them.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Mayflower Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Mayflower Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Mayflower Primary School opened its doors on 2 January 1979 under founding Principal Madam Chua Soo Huang, initially enrolling 2,395 pupils across 56 classes at its original premises along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. Member of Parliament Mr Yeo Toon Chia officially declared the school open in 1980, and it quickly established itself as an important part of the Ang Mo Kio community. The school moved to a new campus in 2000, and in 2019 it became the first mainstream primary school in Singapore designated to support students with moderate to profound hearing loss through a signing approach and co-teaching model.

Mayflower is a government co-educational single-session school operating under the Ministry of Education (MOE). Its guiding philosophy centres on bilingualism, inclusivity, and the principle "Every Mayflowerian a Kindred Spirit," which emphasises empathy, engagement, and the pursuit of excellence. The school's Applied Learning Programme (ALP), known as EcoSTEM Heroes, integrates mathematics and science into sustainability-focused projects over four years, giving students hands-on experience in prototyping environmentally conscious solutions. Its Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Visual Arts and Design supports character development through creative expression.

Admission Process

Enrolment at Mayflower Primary School follows the standard MOE Primary 1 Registration Exercise, which is conducted online for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. Registration typically takes place between July and August each year, proceeding through several phases.

Children who have a sibling currently studying at the school are registered under Phase 1. Subsequent phases (Phase 2A, 2A2, 2B, and 2C) cater to children with alumni connections, parent volunteers, community or church affiliations, and those with no prior link to the school respectively. Phase 2C and 2C Supplementary are open to all eligible children. If applications in any phase exceed the available places, balloting is conducted, with priority given to Singapore Citizens and those living within 1 km of the school.

For the most current registration dates, eligibility requirements, and application procedures, parents should refer to the MOE Primary 1 Registration page or contact the school directly at 6452 0849 or [email protected].

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Mayflower Primary School delivers the full MOE primary curriculum, covering English Language, Mathematics, Science (from Primary 3), Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, and Tamil), Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Subjects are offered at both foundation and standard levels to accommodate different learning needs.

The school's signature EcoSTEM Heroes programme runs from Primary 3 to Primary 6, weaving mathematical reasoning and scientific inquiry into real-world sustainability challenges. Students learn to identify environmental problems, analyse data, and develop prototype solutions. For pupils with strong aptitude in mathematics, the school offers E2K enrichment and participation in Mathematics Olympiad competitions, which build problem-solving skills and logical thinking beyond the standard syllabus.

Mayflower also holds recognition from the National Arts Council through the NAEA Blaze Award (2015–2018), reflecting its commitment to arts education alongside its STEM focus. The school has received the MOE School Distinction Award, Singapore Quality Class Certification, and People Developer Certification. Students have performed well in national competitions, including the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2024. Parents looking to supplement their child's mathematical development outside school hours may consider DeepThink, a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the primary Mathematics syllabus.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The Mayflower campus features classrooms fitted with interactive digital tools for collaborative learning, along with dedicated spaces for STEM activities, art, music, and physical education. Outdoor learning areas, including eco-gardens, are used for nature-based lessons tied to the EcoSTEM programme. The school library provides a quiet environment for reading and independent study.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are an integral part of student life at Mayflower. The school offers a broad selection across four categories:

Sports: Netball, Track and Field, Taekwondo, and Volleyball.

Uniformed Groups: Boys' Brigade, Girls' Brigade, and Scouts.

Performing Arts: Choir, String Ensemble, Guzheng Ensemble, Chinese Dance, Indian Dance, Malay Dance, and English Drama.

Clubs: Art and Crafts, Environmental Science, and Infocomm Technology (Media Production).

Modular CCA programmes may be introduced progressively from Primary 1, allowing younger students to explore different activities before committing to a specific CCA in later years.

Student Life and School Culture

Mayflower Primary School fosters a school culture built on kindness, inclusivity, and mutual respect. As Singapore's first mainstream primary school designated for students with hearing loss who use signing, the school practises a co-teaching model where hearing and deaf students learn together in the same classroom. Special Educational Needs Officers are on staff to provide additional support, and the P1 TRANSIT programme helps incoming students with social and behavioural adjustment needs.

The school encourages family involvement through parent engagement initiatives, including orientation sessions for Primary 1 parents and regular communication through the Parent Kit. The school's values of empathy and community are reflected in everyday interactions between students, teachers, and families.

Mayflower Primary School is located at 200 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, Singapore 569878. Parents can reach the school by phone at 6452 0849 or by email at [email protected].
