Secondary Math is not one-size-fits-all. A G1 student preparing for the SEC exam needs completely different content from a G3 student heading for A-Math. We keep streams in separate classes so every session is relevant.
Stream-specific
Yes. G1, G2, and G3 students each have their own class, so every lesson matches the exact syllabus and exam format your child is sitting.
S3 is where most students hit a wall — the syllabus gets significantly harder, A-Math is new, and SEC exam (or O-Level for the current Sec 4 cohort) prep begins. Students who build strong foundations in S1–S2 handle that jump far better. Starting early is the highest-leverage move a parent can make.
S1 is ideal — algebra gaps from the start of secondary compound quickly and are harder to fix later. That said, students who join in S3 or S4 can still benefit significantly from targeted exam preparation.
Stream-specific classes. Every lesson, worked example, and past-year paper is matched to your child's stream.
Meridian Secondary School is a co-educational government secondary school situated in Pasir Ris, in the eastern part of Singapore. It was formed in 2017 through the merger of Coral Secondary School and Siglap Secondary School, and operates from the former Coral Secondary campus at 31 Pasir Ris Street 51. The school runs on a single-session schedule and serves students across all posting groups.
The school's guiding philosophy centres on developing students as Joyful Learners, Creative Thinkers, and Compassionate Leaders. Its core values — Resilience, Integrity, Compassion, and Humility (RICH) — inform both the academic programme and broader school culture. Meridian offers the GCE O-Level track with Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB), which allows students to take individual subjects at levels that match their strengths. Two signature programmes shape the school's identity: the Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Aesthetics and the Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Community Youth Leadership. The school also offers the Enhanced Art Programme (EAP) as an elective for students with a strong aptitude in visual arts.
Entry to Meridian Secondary School at Secondary 1 follows the national PSLE posting exercise. Based on the most recent intake data (2024 posting cycle), the indicative cut-off points for non-affiliated students were: Posting Group 3 at 12 to 22, Posting Group 2 at 21 to 25, and Posting Group 1 at 25 to 29. These figures represent the Achievement Level score of the last student admitted in each group and may shift year to year depending on applicant demand.
Meridian Secondary School is not affiliated with any primary school, so there is no affiliation bonus in the admissions process. The school does not offer the Integrated Programme; all students follow the four- to five-year O-Level pathway.
Under Full Subject-Based Banding, incoming Secondary 1 students may take certain subjects at more demanding levels if their PSLE performance in those areas warrants it. This means a student admitted to one posting group can still study particular subjects — such as Mathematics or English — alongside peers from a different group.
Meridian's academic programme is built around the GCE O-Level examinations. Core subjects include English Language, Mathematics (Elementary and Additional), the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and Humanities (Social Studies paired with History or Geography electives). Students can also choose from Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Art, Design and Technology, Computer Applications, and Elements of Business Skills. Mother Tongue languages offered are Chinese, Malay, and Higher Chinese, with Tamil Language lessons conducted at a nearby centre.
The Applied Learning Programme in Aesthetics teaches students to communicate through visual media, covering areas such as illustration, photo-journalism, and video-journalism within a design thinking framework. Students in the Enhanced Art Programme receive additional instruction from practising artists and may participate in overseas immersion experiences.
Full Subject-Based Banding gives students the flexibility to study individual subjects at different levels based on their demonstrated ability. For instance, a student might take Mathematics at a more advanced level while following the standard track for other subjects.
Families seeking additional support in Mathematics may consider DeepThink, a specialist math tuition centre whose structured programmes are aligned to the O-Level syllabus and can complement the school's curriculum.
The campus includes classrooms fitted with interactive technology, science laboratories, computer labs, a library, and a dedicated art studio supporting the Enhanced Art Programme. Sports facilities include multi-purpose courts, and the school maintains green spaces used for outdoor learning activities.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are an integral part of student life at Meridian, with more than 20 options spanning four categories:
Sports and Games: Badminton, Basketball (Boys), Floorball, Football, and Netball.
Uniformed Groups: National Cadet Corps (NCC) Land, National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC), and Red Cross Youth.
Performing Arts: Angklung/Kulintang Ensemble, Choir, Concert Band, Modern Dance, and English Drama.
Clubs and Societies: Infocomm Technology (Media Production) and Robotics.
These activities support character development, teamwork, and leadership skills, and contribute to the school's broader emphasis on holistic education.
School culture at Meridian is shaped by its RICH values and a strong emphasis on pastoral care. Form teachers, school counsellors, and allied educators work together to support students' well-being and address individual needs. Character development is reinforced through Values-In-Action (VIA) community service projects and the Meridian Lighthouse Programme (MLP), which builds leadership capacity and a sense of service.
The Learning for Life Programme in Community Youth Leadership provides a structured framework for developing students' communication skills, trust-building abilities, and commitment to community impact. These programmes run alongside daily academic instruction and CCA participation.
For families with children entering Secondary 1, the school holds open house sessions where prospective students and parents can learn about the academic programme, FSBB implementation, and co-curricular offerings. The transition from primary to secondary school is supported through orientation activities and guidance from teachers and older students.
