How DeepThink supports New Town Primary School students

  • Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at New Town Primary School

  • Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd

  • From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks

  • Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions

What your child gets at DeepThink

Each weekly session builds directly on the last. Your child works through new concepts, revisits gaps, and practises exam-style questions — in a group small enough that the teacher actually knows them.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at New Town Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at New Town Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

New Town Primary School was established in 1965 and officially inaugurated on 26 July of that year by Dr. Goh Keng Swee, who was then serving as Minister for Finance. Situated in the Queenstown neighbourhood, the school has undergone several transitions over the decades — it shifted to an English-medium curriculum in 1983, relocated to new premises in 1992, adopted single-session operations in 2004, and merged with Ghim Moh Primary School in 2009 at its present site on Tanglin Halt Road. The school marked its 50th anniversary in 2015, coinciding with Singapore's SG50 celebrations.

The school operates as a government co-educational primary school under the Ministry of Education (MOE). Its guiding philosophy centres on the belief that every child can learn and wants to learn, with core values of caring, honesty, and unity reflected across its programmes. New Town Primary runs two signature programmes: the Applied Learning Programme (ALP), titled scieNcE Alive@NEwTown, which takes an interdisciplinary approach to STEM by combining science and mathematics through hands-on experiments and real-world problem solving; and the Learning for Life Programme (LLP), A Leader in Every Child, which develops empathy, civic responsibility, and student leadership through community service projects.

Admission Process

Admission to Primary 1 at New Town Primary School follows the standard MOE Primary 1 registration exercise, which is conducted online between July and August each year for children turning seven the following January.

Registration proceeds through a series of phases. Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently enrolled at the school. Phase 2A covers children whose parents are alumni of the school, members of the school advisory committee, or staff at the school. Phase 2B is for children whose parents have volunteered at the school or who are connected through an affiliated church or clan. Phase 2C is open to all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who have not secured a place in earlier phases, with priority given based on home-to-school distance — within 1 km first, then 1 to 2 km, and beyond 2 km last. A supplementary Phase 2C round follows for any remaining vacancies.

If the number of applicants exceeds available places in any phase, a ballot is conducted. Parents can check past vacancy and balloting data on the MOE website to gauge the likelihood of securing a place. The school does not hold SAP (Special Assistance Plan) status.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

New Town Primary School delivers the national curriculum set by MOE, covering English Language, Mathematics, Science (from Primary 3), Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, and Tamil), Art, Music, Physical Education, and Social Studies. Both foundation and standard levels are available for English, Mathematics, Science, and Mother Tongue to accommodate different learning needs under Subject-Based Banding.

The school's ALP in interdisciplinary STEM encourages students to connect mathematical concepts such as measurement, data analysis, and spatial reasoning with scientific inquiry through collaborative projects and experiments. Students also participate in mathematics enrichment activities, and in past years, pupils have earned merits and honourable mentions at the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad.

Mother Tongue Languages are offered at both foundation and higher levels to support bilingual development. The overall approach to teaching emphasises inquiry-based learning, regular formative assessments, and targeted support to help every student build a strong foundation ahead of the PSLE.

Families looking for additional mathematics support outside school hours may consider DeepThink, a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the MOE primary mathematics syllabus.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The school campus includes classrooms fitted with interactive whiteboards, a library with resources for independent learning, science laboratories that support the ALP, and outdoor spaces including multi-purpose fields and garden areas used for physical education and environmental learning.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are available across four categories. In sports, students can join Badminton, Basketball (Boys), Netball (Girls), and Football (Boys). Uniformed groups include Red Cross Youth and Girl Guides (Brownies), both of which develop discipline and leadership skills in line with the school's LLP focus. Performing arts options cover Choir, Brass Band, Modern Dance, Chinese Dance, Malay Dance, and Speech and Drama. Clubs such as Art and Crafts and Robotics round out the offerings, with Robotics giving students opportunities to apply mathematical thinking to coding and design challenges.

Student Life and School Culture

New Town Primary School operates as a single-session school, which allows for a more consistent daily routine and time for afternoon enrichment and CCA participation. The school culture is shaped by its emphasis on character development, with programmes that nurture a growth mindset, resilience, and a sense of responsibility toward the wider community.

The LLP on community service and student leadership is woven throughout school life, giving students regular opportunities to contribute to their neighbourhood and develop as confident, empathetic individuals. Values education is reinforced through daily interactions, assembly programmes, and structured reflection activities.

The school's logo and song reflect its founding ideals of moral values, the pursuit of knowledge, and service to Singapore. For parents considering New Town Primary, the school hosts open houses and provides information through its official website and the MOE Schools Directory.

Yes. New Town Primary School is a co-educational government school that enrols both boys and girls from Primary 1 through Primary 6. It operates on a single-session schedule.

Registration follows the MOE Primary 1 registration exercise, conducted online from July to August each year. Parents register during the phase they are eligible for, starting with Phase 1 for siblings of current students, through to Phase 2C which is open to all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.
