Math Tuition for Punggol Primary School Students

Small-group Primary Math classes where every child gets individual attention — and the skills to show it in exams.

How DeepThink supports Punggol Primary School students

  • Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at Punggol Primary School

  • Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd

  • From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks

  • Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Punggol Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Punggol Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Punggol Primary School (PPS) is a co-educational government primary school that opened in January 1995. It initially operated from the former Hai Sing Girls' High School premises before moving to its present location at 61 Hougang Avenue 8 later that same year. The school serves students from Primary 1 through Primary 6 in a single-session format.

PPS is guided by the vision of nurturing a gracious community of confident, innovative, and lifelong learners. Its mission centres on fostering a love for learning while encouraging students to care for others. The school's core values are captured in the STAR framework: Self-discipline, Teamwork, Affection, and Responsibility. Students are also encouraged to adopt a Champion Mindset, which treats setbacks as opportunities for growth rather than failure.

As a government school, PPS follows the Ministry of Education (MOE) national curriculum and supports bilingual education. Two signature programmes define the school's identity. The Applied Learning Programme (ALP), called GreeNovation @ PPS, is an interdisciplinary programme focused on environmental sustainability and green innovation. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP), known as S.T.A.R.S., develops social-emotional competencies and character through sports and outdoor education.

Admission Process

Admission to Punggol Primary School at Primary 1 follows the annual MOE Primary 1 Registration Exercise, which is conducted online across several phases.

Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently studying at the school. Phase 2A covers children whose parents are alumni of the school or who have connections to affiliated organisations. Phase 2B is for children whose parents have served as parent volunteers or are endorsed by community or church leaders associated with the school. Phase 2C is open to all Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident children who are not eligible under earlier phases.

In phases where there are more applicants than available places, balloting is conducted. Priority within each phase is determined by home-to-school distance, with preference given to families living within 1 km of the school, then within 1 to 2 km, and finally beyond 2 km. Singapore Citizens receive priority over Permanent Residents within each distance band.

Applications are submitted through the MOE P1 registration portal during the designated period each year. Parents can refer to the MOE website for the latest registration timeline, eligibility details, and past balloting data.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Punggol Primary School delivers the standard MOE primary curriculum, covering English Language, Mathematics, Science (from Primary 3), and Mother Tongue Languages. Chinese, Malay, and Tamil are offered as Mother Tongue options, with both foundation and standard levels available to accommodate varying proficiencies. Students work toward the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) at the end of Primary 6, with subjects offered at both foundation and standard levels under the current AL scoring system.

The school places particular emphasis on building strong foundations in the early years (Primary 1 to 4), with structured progression toward upper primary academic demands. Mathematics instruction follows an inquiry-based approach that encourages logical reasoning and conceptual understanding from the outset.

PPS students have performed well in national mathematics competitions. In the Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World Contest (RIPMWC), the school's participants achieved 1 High Distinction, 2 Distinctions, and 5 Merits. In the Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS), students earned 1 Silver and 5 Bronze awards, along with additional Bronze medals in other mathematics olympiads.

For families seeking additional mathematics support beyond what the school provides, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned with the MOE primary syllabus, which some PPS parents have found helpful for reinforcing concepts covered in class.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The school campus is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring a barrier-free environment suited for young learners. Facilities include interactive classrooms for collaborative learning, a well-equipped library, and dedicated spaces for science and technology activities including robotics. Green outdoor areas support the S.T.A.R.S. programme and nature-based learning activities.

PPS offers a wide range of Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) for students. Sports options include Basketball and Hockey. Uniformed groups such as the Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade build discipline and leadership skills. Performing arts CCAs cover the Choir, Guzheng Ensemble, Concert Band, and Angklung/Kulintang Ensemble. Clubs and societies include Art and Crafts, English Drama and Debating, Infocomm Technology (covering computing and media production), and Design and Innovation.

For younger students in Primary 1 to 3, the school runs modular CCAs that allow participation in short-term activities such as Frisbee and Hockey before committing to a full CCA in the upper primary years. This approach gives younger children the chance to explore different interests at their own pace.

Student Life and School Culture

School culture at PPS centres on holistic development and community. The Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) programme runs alongside the academic curriculum and is reinforced through the school's ALP and LLP signature programmes. Together, these initiatives aim to develop students who are not only academically capable but also socially responsible and emotionally resilient.

The school supports students with additional needs through Special Educational Needs Officers and the P1 TRANSIT programme, which helps new Primary 1 students adjust to the social and behavioural expectations of primary school life.

Parent engagement is a valued part of the school community. Parents can contribute through the Parent Support Group and the School Advisory Committee (SAC), both of which play active roles in school events and planning. The school also holds regular briefings for parents on topics such as cyber wellness and transition support between key stages.

PPS has produced alumni who have gone on to pursue studies and careers in STEM-related fields, including engineering and data science, reflecting the school's early emphasis on analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
