Math Tuition for Queenstown Primary School Students

Small-group Primary Math classes where every child gets individual attention — and the skills to show it in exams.

Queenstown Primary School traces its roots to 1956, when it first opened its doors as a cornerstone of education in Singapore’s heartland. DeepThink's Primary Math programme is designed to support Queenstown Primary School students from P1 through P6.

About Queenstown Primary School

Queenstown Primary School traces its roots to 1956, when it first opened its doors as a cornerstone of education in Singapore’s heartland. Over the decades, it evolved through strategic mergers, including one with Birkhall Road School in 1984 and a pivotal consolidation in January 2002 with Mei Chin Primary, Tanglin Primary, and the original Queenstown Primary.

How DeepThink supports Queenstown Primary School students

  • Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at Queenstown Primary School

  • Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd

  • From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks

  • Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Queenstown Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Queenstown Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Queenstown Primary School came into being in January 2002 through the consolidation of three neighbourhood institutions: Mei Chin Primary School, Tanglin Primary School, and the original Queenstown Primary. The school's earlier history stretches back to 1956, and a prior merger with Birkhall Road School took place in 1984. Today, QtPS operates as a government co-educational single-session primary school under the Ministry of Education.

The school's educational philosophy centres on student-focused learning, bilingualism, and values-based character development. Its Applied Learning Programme (ALP) focuses on Interdisciplinary Environmental Project-based Learning, where students tackle real-world problems using knowledge from multiple subjects. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP), titled "Connecting the heARTs with ARTs," is built around Visual Arts and Design, giving students opportunities to express themselves creatively. QtPS uses inquiry-based teaching methods and integrates technology into classroom instruction across all levels.

Admission Process

Admission to Queenstown Primary School at Primary 1 follows the MOE Primary 1 Registration Exercise, which takes place annually between June and August. The exercise is conducted in several phases:

Phase 1 is reserved for children who have a sibling currently enrolled at the school. Phase 2A is open to children of alumni members, children of staff, or children from an affiliated kindergarten. Phase 2B accommodates children whose parents have volunteered at the school or who are endorsed by community or church leaders connected to the school. Phase 2C is for all Singapore Citizen children who are not eligible under earlier phases. Phase 2C Supplementary provides a final opportunity for children who were not placed in Phase 2C.

When applications in any phase exceed the number of available places, balloting is conducted by MOE. Priority is given to children living within 1 km of the school, followed by those within 1 to 2 km. Registration is completed online through the MOE Primary 1 Registration portal. Parents should refer to the MOE website for the most current registration dates and procedures.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Queenstown Primary School follows the national curriculum set by MOE. Core subjects taught from Primary 1 to Primary 6 include English Language, Mathematics, Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, or Tamil), Science (from Primary 3), Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Mother Tongue is available at standard, higher, and foundation levels to match each student's proficiency.

The Mathematics curriculum at QtPS uses the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, which helps students build understanding by working with physical materials before progressing to visual representations and then symbolic notation. Students have performed well in external mathematics competitions, including the National Math Olympiad of Singapore (NMOS) and the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS), where participants have earned gold medals and other awards. For families looking for additional support in mathematics beyond the school curriculum, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the primary school syllabus.

The school's ALP in Interdisciplinary Environmental Project-based Learning gives students the chance to apply classroom learning to environmental issues, developing research and problem-solving skills. The LLP in Visual Arts and Design encourages creative expression and emotional development. In 2025, a QtPS student received the Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (Primary), and past recipients of the Prime Minister's Book Prize include Lao En Xing in 2013.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The QtPS campus includes barrier-free facilities designed to support a range of learning activities. Classrooms are set up for hands-on instruction, and the school maintains a library, science and computing laboratories, and outdoor green spaces linked to its environmental education programme. Special Educational Needs Officers are part of the school's support structure for students who require additional assistance.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are a core part of the QtPS experience, typically beginning from Primary 3 with modular introductions available for younger students. The CCA programme spans four categories:

Sports: Badminton, basketball, football, softball, and swimming.

Performing Arts: Choir, Chinese dance, Malay dance, modern dance, and English drama.

Uniformed Groups: Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade.

Clubs and Societies: Mathematics, International Chess, Chinese Weiqi, Infocomm Technology, Art and Crafts, and Environmental Science.

The Mathematics CCA provides enrichment through problem-solving exercises and preparation for competitions such as the Singapore Math Kangaroo Contest. Strategic thinking is further developed through the Chess and Weiqi clubs, while the Infocomm Technology club introduces students to coding concepts.

Student Life and School Culture

QtPS places strong emphasis on holistic development and character education. The school's values framework guides student behaviour and is reinforced through daily interactions, assemblies, and structured programmes. Students are encouraged to develop qualities such as responsibility, respect, and resilience.

The Parent Support Group (QtPSG) plays an active role in school life, organising events and working alongside staff to support student learning and well-being. Family involvement is a valued part of the school's approach to education.

The school's single-session format means all students attend during the same hours, which allows for a consistent daily routine and shared experiences across the student body. Students who have gone through QtPS have moved on to a range of secondary schools, with many citing the school's supportive environment and strong mathematics programme as factors in their development.
