Secondary Math classes grouped by stream, each covering the exact syllabus and exam format for that level.
G1, G2, and G3 students are in separate classes, each covering the content and exam format for that stream
O-Level, N-Level, and SEC exam preparation built in from S3, matched to the stream your child is sitting
E-Math and A-Math taught in separate classes from S3 onwards
S1 to S5 coverage so your child can stay with DeepThink for their entire secondary journey without switching centres
Secondary Math is not one-size-fits-all. A G1 student preparing for the SEC exam needs completely different content from a G3 student heading for A-Math. We keep streams in separate classes so every session is relevant.
Stream-specific
Yes. G1, G2, and G3 students each have their own class, so every lesson matches the exact syllabus and exam format your child is sitting.
S3 is where most students hit a wall — the syllabus gets significantly harder, A-Math is new, and SEC exam (or O-Level for the current Sec 4 cohort) prep begins. Students who build strong foundations in S1–S2 handle that jump far better. Starting early is the highest-leverage move a parent can make.
S1 is ideal — algebra gaps from the start of secondary compound quickly and are harder to fix later. That said, students who join in S3 or S4 can still benefit significantly from targeted exam preparation.
Stream-specific classes. Every lesson, worked example, and past-year paper is matched to your child's stream.
St. Margaret's School (Secondary) has its origins in 1842, when missionary Maria Dyer established what is widely considered the first girls' school in Singapore and one of the earliest in Southeast Asia. The secondary division was set up in 1960 as a separate entity from the primary section, growing into an all-girls institution with a distinct identity. It operates as a government-aided autonomous school within the Anglican tradition, with Christian principles forming the foundation of its educational approach.
The school's motto — "Charity, Patience, Devotion" — reflects its commitment to nurturing compassion, perseverance, and dedication to both faith and community. Its crest features a green field representing growth alongside a white cross symbolising purity and divine provision. St. Margaret's Secondary maintains an affiliation with St. Margaret's School (Primary), which provides priority admission consideration for eligible students. It is also linked to St. Andrew's Junior College, offering a pathway to pre-university education. The school runs the Enhanced Music Programme (EMP), a specialised track that integrates bilingual education with arts development.
Entry to St. Margaret's School (Secondary) at Secondary 1 is through the PSLE posting exercise and the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme.
For the PSLE route, placement is based on Achievement Level (AL) scores. Using the 2024 intake as a reference, the indicative cut-off points for Posting Group 3 were AL 8 to 11 for non-affiliated students, and AL 9 to 20 for affiliated students from St. Margaret's School (Primary). For Posting Group 2, the range was AL 21 to 25 for both affiliated and non-affiliated applicants. Posting Group 1 cut-offs were AL 25 to 28 for non-affiliated students and AL 26 to 29 for affiliated students. These figures represent the score of the last admitted student in that cycle and may shift from year to year.
The DSA scheme enables Primary 6 students to apply before their PSLE results are released, based on demonstrated ability in areas such as sports (including track and field), performing arts (such as choir and drama), visual arts, and leadership. Applications are submitted through the MOE DSA portal, which typically opens around May for entry the following January.
St. Margaret's Secondary does not offer an Integrated Programme. Students follow either the O-Level or Normal (Academic/Technical) tracks. Under MOE's Full Subject-Based Banding framework, students can take individual subjects at different levels according to their strengths.
The academic programme at St. Margaret's Secondary follows the MOE national curriculum, with core subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, and the Sciences. Students may choose electives from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Art, Higher Mother Tongue Languages, Principles of Accounts, and Nutrition and Food Science.
The school has maintained a steady record of academic performance in the GCE O-Level examinations, with students regularly achieving strong results in Mathematics and the Sciences. As an autonomous school, St. Margaret's Secondary has received recognition through national-level awards, and its graduates have gone on to study at local and overseas universities.
Specialised programmes include the Enhanced Music Programme (EMP), which caters to students with aptitude in music, and STEM-related initiatives that develop analytical and problem-solving skills. The school also places emphasis on bilingual education and critical thinking across the curriculum.
Families seeking additional support in Mathematics may consider DeepThink, a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the O-Level and Additional Mathematics syllabuses. Some St. Margaret's students have found this helpful for reinforcing concepts covered in class.
St. Margaret's Secondary relocated to its Farrer Road campus in 2000. The campus includes air-conditioned classrooms with interactive learning technology, science laboratories, computer labs, a library, a multipurpose sports hall, and dedicated studios for music and visual arts. Audio-visual facilities support the Enhanced Music Programme.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are a compulsory component of school life, assessed under the LEAPS 2.0 framework for leadership and character development. The school offers CCAs across several categories:
Sports: Badminton, basketball, bowling, fencing, floorball, netball, and tennis.
Performing Arts: Chinese dance, choir, concert band, English drama, Indian dance, Malay dance, modern dance, and string ensemble.
Uniformed Groups: Girls' Brigade, Girl Guides, National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC), and Red Cross Youth.

Students also participate in community service projects and music ensembles, consistent with the school's emphasis on service and character. Several CCAs regularly take part in the Singapore Youth Festival and national-level competitions.
School culture at St. Margaret's Secondary is grounded in its Anglican heritage and the values expressed through its motto. Daily assemblies include time for reflection, and pastoral care is embedded in the school's approach to student well-being. Class sizes typically range from 35 to 40 students, with form teachers providing guidance and support.
The school runs wellness programmes and offers access to counselling services as part of its student support structure. Leadership development is encouraged through camps, student council roles, and CCA responsibilities.
As a single-session school, the daily timetable provides time for both academic lessons and CCA participation. Students transitioning from primary school are supported through orientation programmes and mentoring by senior students.
The all-girls environment fosters a close-knit community where students are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of responsibility toward others.
