Temasek Secondary School (TMS) is a co-educational government autonomous secondary school in Bedok South, Singapore. Founded in 1980, it offers secondary education leading to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level or Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level examination.
G1, G2, and G3 students are in separate classes, each covering the content and exam format for that stream
O-Level, N-Level, and SEC exam preparation built in from S3, matched to the stream your child is sitting
E-Math and A-Math taught in separate classes from S3 onwards
S1 to S5 coverage so your child can stay with DeepThink for their entire secondary journey without switching centres
Secondary Math is not one-size-fits-all. A G1 student preparing for the SEC exam needs completely different content from a G3 student heading for A-Math. We keep streams in separate classes so every session is relevant.
Stream-specific
Yes. G1, G2, and G3 students each have their own class, so every lesson matches the exact syllabus and exam format your child is sitting.
S3 is where most students hit a wall — the syllabus gets significantly harder, A-Math is new, and SEC exam (or O-Level for the current Sec 4 cohort) prep begins. Students who build strong foundations in S1–S2 handle that jump far better. Starting early is the highest-leverage move a parent can make.
S1 is ideal — algebra gaps from the start of secondary compound quickly and are harder to fix later. That said, students who join in S3 or S4 can still benefit significantly from targeted exam preparation.
Stream-specific classes. Every lesson, worked example, and past-year paper is matched to your child's stream.
Temasek Secondary School (TMS) was founded in 1980 as a co-educational government institution. In its early years, the school shared facilities with Bedok North Secondary School along Upper Changi Road before moving to its permanent campus in 1982. The school was granted autonomous status in 1995, giving it additional flexibility to develop its own programmes and curriculum enhancements.
TMS operates as a single-session school serving students from Secondary 1 through Secondary 5. Its guiding philosophy centres on caring and commitment — to the school community, to others, and to oneself. The school places emphasis on holistic development, encouraging students to build both personal mastery and leadership qualities through structured programmes. TMS has held the School Distinction Award continuously since 2005 and received the Lee Hsien Loong Award for innovations in the Normal (Academic) course. The school is affiliated with Temasek Primary School, which provides priority admission consideration for affiliated students during the Secondary 1 posting exercise.
Entry to Temasek Secondary School at Secondary 1 takes place through two main pathways: the PSLE posting exercise and the Direct School Admission (DSA) scheme.
For PSLE-based admission, indicative cut-off points based on the most recent posting cycle are as follows: Posting Group 1 (Express) at 25 to 26, Posting Group 2 (Normal Academic) at 21 to 22, and Posting Group 3 (Normal Technical) at 7 to 11. These figures represent the score of the last student admitted in that cycle and may shift from year to year. Students from the affiliated Temasek Primary School typically benefit from lower thresholds during the posting exercise.
The DSA scheme allows students to apply for a place before PSLE results are released, based on demonstrated ability in areas such as Student Leadership, sports (including basketball and shooting), and the arts. Up to 20% of the cohort may be admitted through DSA.
TMS follows the O-Level academic track and implements Full Subject-Based Banding (SBB). Under SBB, students can study individual subjects at different levels (G1, G2, or G3) based on their strengths, rather than being assigned to a single stream for all subjects.
The academic programme at Temasek Secondary School follows the MOE secondary curriculum, with core subjects including English Language, Mathematics (Elementary and Additional), the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Humanities (Social Studies, Geography, History, Literature in English), and Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, Tamil, including Higher levels). Elective subjects such as Principles of Accounts, Computing, Economics, Art, and Design and Technology are also available. Through Full Subject-Based Banding, students take subjects at levels that match their individual abilities.
The school has demonstrated consistent academic results. In the 2021 GCE O-Level examinations, TMS recorded a 100% overall pass rate. The 2024 cohort achieved strong outcomes in the sciences, with 83.8% passing Pure Physics and 63.9% passing Chemistry. The school also runs STEM-focused initiatives and bilingual education components that support broader academic development.
Students preparing for the O-Level examinations in Mathematics may benefit from additional structured practice outside school. DeepThink, a math tuition centre, offers programmes aligned to the O-Level Elementary and Additional Mathematics syllabuses that provide systematic revision support for secondary students.
Temasek Secondary School's campus includes classrooms fitted with interactive learning technology, science laboratories, computer labs, a library, sports facilities with tracks and courts, and arts studios.
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are a central part of school life at TMS, with more than 20 options across several categories:
Performing Arts: Choir, English Drama, Modern Dance, and Concert Band.
Sports and Games: Shooting, Basketball (Boys), Canoeing (Boys), Netball (Girls), Softball (Boys), Track and Field, Wushu, and Bowling.
Uniformed Groups: National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC), National Cadet Corps (Land, Boys), and National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC).
Clubs and Societies: Leadership, Robotics, Environmental Science, and Infocomm Technology (Media Production).
CCA participation contributes to students' overall development and is also relevant for DSA applications and post-secondary admissions.
The school culture at TMS is guided by its emphasis on caring, commitment, and community. Daily school life combines structured academic periods with co-curricular and pastoral activities. Class sizes are approximately 40 students, and pastoral care is delivered through form teachers, school counsellors, and dedicated Special Educational Needs Officers who support students requiring additional assistance.
The school runs a structured leadership development programme spanning four years, giving students progressive opportunities to take on responsibility within the school community. Well-being initiatives, including peer mentoring and anti-bullying programmes, are part of the school's approach to supporting students through secondary education.
For families transitioning from primary to secondary school, TMS provides orientation activities to help incoming Secondary 1 students adjust. Establishing consistent study routines, participating actively in a CCA, and making use of peer support networks are practical steps that can ease the transition.
