Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at White Sands Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at White Sands Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

White Sands Primary School began operations in January 1998 with an initial cohort of 222 students, sharing a site with Park View Primary School. The school moved to its permanent campus at 2 Pasir Ris Street 11 in 1999, and later absorbed Coral Primary School through a merger in 2019. It is a co-educational government primary school under the Ministry of Education, operating on a single-session schedule for all students from Primary 1 to Primary 6.

The school's vision centres on developing students who are passionate about learning and who demonstrate strong character. Its educational approach is grounded in bilingualism, values-based education, and inclusivity. White Sands runs two distinctive programmes: an Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Digital Making, branded as the E3 Journey (Excite, Enable, Excel), which introduces students to coding and robotics; and a Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Visual Arts and Design, known as HeARTs @ WSPS, which connects artistic expression with cultural heritage. The school also provides support for students with special educational needs through its P1 TRANSIT programme, which focuses on social and behavioural development.

Admission Process

Admission to White Sands Primary School follows the standard MOE Primary 1 Registration framework, which runs from July to October each year. The process is conducted in phases: Phase 1 is reserved for children with siblings already enrolled in the school; Phase 2A covers children whose parents are alumni or school staff; Phase 2B gives priority to children of parent volunteers who have completed at least 40 hours of service, as well as children connected to the school through community or church leadership; and Phase 2C is open to all other Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.

When applications in any phase exceed available places, a ballot is held. Priority in the ballot is determined by home-to-school distance, with children living within 1 km given first consideration, followed by those within 1 to 2 km, and then those beyond 2 km. At least 20 places are set aside for Phase 2C to maintain broad access.

Parents who wish to apply under Phase 2B through the Parent Volunteer Scheme should submit their application between 2 January and 30 April of the year before their child's P1 registration. Requirements include completing a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service by 30 June. Applications can be submitted via email or in person, and an interview may be part of the selection process. Registration is handled through the MOE P1 Registration Portal.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

White Sands Primary School follows the national curriculum set by MOE. Core subjects include English Language, Mathematics, Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, and Tamil), and Science from Primary 3 onwards. Additional subjects such as Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education are part of the programme at all levels. Higher Mother Tongue options are available in Chinese, Malay, and Tamil for students with strong language proficiency, alongside foundation-level courses for those who need additional support.

In Primary 1 and 2, students learn without weighted examinations, allowing them to build confidence and foundational skills before formal assessments begin in the upper primary years. The curriculum progressively prepares students for the PSLE at Primary 6, covering all examinable subjects with structured revision and practice.

The ALP in Digital Making gives students hands-on experience with technology and computational thinking from an early age, while the LLP in Visual Arts develops creative and expressive skills across all year levels. Both programmes are designed to complement the academic curriculum rather than operate separately from it.

For families seeking additional support in Mathematics beyond what the school provides, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the MOE primary syllabus, which some White Sands parents have found helpful for reinforcing classroom learning.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The campus at 2 Pasir Ris Street 11 includes classrooms fitted with interactive learning technology, a library, a dedicated Digital Making Lab that supports ALP activities, and outdoor green spaces used for experiential learning and physical education.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are offered across three categories. In Sports, students can participate in Netball, Football, Table Tennis, and Tchoukball, with most options open to both boys and girls. Performing Arts CCAs include Choir, Guzheng Ensemble, Modern Dance, Chinese Dance, and Malay Dance. Clubs and Societies cover Art and Crafts, Infocomm Technology (split into Computing and Media Production tracks), and Environmental Science.

Younger students may have access to modular CCA options that allow them to sample different activities before committing to a regular CCA. Participation in CCAs runs alongside the academic programme and contributes to students' overall development in teamwork, discipline, and self-expression.

Student Life and School Culture

White Sands Primary School operates as a single-session school, with students expected to report by 7:30 am for the daily flag-raising ceremony. CCA sessions for Primary 3 to 6 are typically held on Wednesdays from 2:15 pm to 3:45 pm. A school-based Student Care Centre provides after-school supervision for students whose families require it, covering homework time, recreational activities, and character development. Availability is subject to vacancies, and parents can apply directly through the school or the centre operator.

The school's values framework is built around Care, Respect, Responsibility, Rallying Together, Resilience, and Excellence. These values are woven into daily school life through pastoral care, student leadership opportunities, and community-oriented projects. Support for students with special educational needs is provided by dedicated Special Educational Needs Officers, complemented by the P1 TRANSIT programme for incoming students who may need help with social adjustment.

As a government school, White Sands charges minimal fees for Singapore Citizens, typically around $5 per month for miscellaneous costs. Different fee structures apply for Permanent Residents and International Students, and financial assistance schemes are available for eligible families. Parents can verify exact fee amounts through the MOE fees calculator.

The school is located at 2 Pasir Ris Street 11, Singapore 519075, and can be reached at 6922 9100 or [email protected].
