Established in 1984, Whitley Secondary School is a government co-educational school located in the heart of Bishan, serving students from diverse backgrounds in a single-session format. As a non-autonomous institution, it emphasizes accessible excellence, fostering well-rounded individuals through its motto, “To Serve, To Lead.
G1, G2, and G3 students are in separate classes, each covering the content and exam format for that stream
O-Level, N-Level, and SEC exam preparation built in from S3, matched to the stream your child is sitting
E-Math and A-Math taught in separate classes from S3 onwards
S1 to S5 coverage so your child can stay with DeepThink for their entire secondary journey without switching centres
Secondary Math is not one-size-fits-all. A G1 student preparing for the SEC exam needs completely different content from a G3 student heading for A-Math. We keep streams in separate classes so every session is relevant.
Stream-specific
Yes. G1, G2, and G3 students each have their own class, so every lesson matches the exact syllabus and exam format your child is sitting.
S3 is where most students hit a wall — the syllabus gets significantly harder, A-Math is new, and SEC exam (or O-Level for the current Sec 4 cohort) prep begins. Students who build strong foundations in S1–S2 handle that jump far better. Starting early is the highest-leverage move a parent can make.
S1 is ideal — algebra gaps from the start of secondary compound quickly and are harder to fix later. That said, students who join in S3 or S4 can still benefit significantly from targeted exam preparation.
Stream-specific classes. Every lesson, worked example, and past-year paper is matched to your child's stream.
Whitley Secondary School is a government co-educational institution that has served students in the Bishan area since its founding in 1984. The school operates on a single-session model and welcomes students from a wide range of backgrounds. Guided by its motto, "To Serve, To Lead," the school focuses on developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to contribute to their communities and navigate an increasingly connected world.
Two signature programmes define much of what Whitley offers beyond the standard curriculum. The Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Speech Communication Arts brings together language skills with practical disciplines such as public speaking and drama, giving students regular opportunities to develop confidence in oral communication. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in Community Youth Leadership channels students toward active citizenship through projects aimed at social change. Together, these programmes reflect Whitley's emphasis on both academic growth and character formation.
Entry to Whitley Secondary School at Secondary 1 is determined primarily through PSLE Achievement Level (AL) scores. The school has no affiliated primary schools, so there is no affiliation bonus during the posting exercise.
The indicative PSLE cut-off points based on recent admissions are as follows:
Posting Group 3: AL 6 to 22
Posting Group 2: AL 23 to 25
Posting Group 1: AL 25 to 30
These figures reflect the score of the last student admitted in the most recent cycle and may shift from year to year depending on demand.
The Direct School Admission (DSA) pathway is available for students with particular strengths in areas such as sports (including badminton and football), performing arts (drama, choir), and leadership. DSA applications are submitted through the MOE DSA portal, typically opening around mid-year.
Whitley does not offer the Integrated Programme. Students follow the O-Level track, with Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB) in place to allow them to take individual subjects at different levels according to their strengths. Parents considering Whitley are encouraged to attend the school's open house events, usually held between May and June, and to check the school website for the latest admissions information.
Whitley delivers the national curriculum with a balanced combination of core and elective subjects. Core subjects include English Language, Mathematics (Elementary and Additional), the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), and Humanities (Social Studies paired with Geography or History).
