Math Tuition for Xinmin Primary School Students

Small-group Primary Math classes where every child gets individual attention — and the skills to show it in exams.

How DeepThink supports Xinmin Primary School students

  • Lessons follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus exactly — the same topics, heuristics, and model-drawing methods your child uses at Xinmin Primary School

  • Small group classes so your child can ask questions, get feedback, and is never lost in the crowd

  • From P5 onwards, every class is structured around PSLE technique — not just content, but how to show working clearly and pick up method marks

  • Parents are kept in the loop on what was covered and where their child needs more practice — so you're never in the dark between sessions

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

Does DeepThink follow the same syllabus my child is on at Xinmin Primary School?

Yes. All Singapore primary schools follow the MOE Primary Math syllabus, and our P1–P6 classes are built around that curriculum — the same topics, the same model-drawing and heuristics approach, and the same exam format your child sits at Xinmin Primary School.

How will I know if my child is making progress?

Parents are kept informed on what was covered and where their child should focus. We also flag any persistent gaps as soon as we spot them — not just before exams.

When should my child start tuition?

There's no single right answer, but earlier is generally better. Gaps in foundational topics like fractions and ratios compound as children move through primary school. A free trial class is a good way to find out where your child actually stands.

What makes DeepThink different from other math tuition centres?

Small group classes, parents kept in the loop on progress, and a curriculum focused on the exact skills MOE examiners test — including how to structure solutions, not just whether the answer is correct.

School Overview

Xinmin Primary School traces its roots to 1 November 1945, when it was established as Sin Min Public School by three founding educators: Mr Yap Fun Hong, Mr Heng Chin Soo, and Mr Tan Choon Teng. In its early years, the school operated with eight teachers and an enrolment of approximately 300 pupils. It moved to its present site in Hougang in 1986 and became a standalone primary school in 1988 following its separation from the secondary section.

As a co-educational, single-session government school under the Ministry of Education (MOE), Xinmin serves students from Primary 1 through Primary 6. The school's vision centres on developing a community of learners, leaders, and innovators, guided by core values of respect, responsibility, resilience, and integrity. Its educational approach places emphasis on bilingualism, self-directed learning, and well-rounded student development.

Two signature programmes shape the school's identity. The Applied Learning Programme (ALP), known as GLOBE@Xinmin Pri Sch (Green Lifestyle Observed By Everyone), uses interdisciplinary STEM activities and hands-on projects to build environmental awareness among students. The Learning for Life Programme (LLP), called CLOVE (Cultivating a Life of Values and Excellence), focuses on developing leadership qualities and community service skills across all year levels.

Admission Process

Enrolment at Xinmin Primary School follows MOE's standard Primary 1 registration framework, which is conducted in phases each year, typically between July and August.

Phase 1 is reserved for children whose siblings are currently enrolled at the school, and registration in this phase guarantees a place. Phase 2A is open to children of alumni, children of staff members, and children from feeder schools or affiliated institutions. Phase 2B covers children whose parents have volunteered at the school or who are connected through community or church leaders affiliated with the school. Phase 2C is the open phase for all remaining applicants with no prior connection to the school.

When applications in any phase exceed the number of available places, MOE conducts a ballot. In Phase 2C balloting, priority is given first to Singapore citizens living within 1 km of the school, followed by citizens within 1 to 2 km, and then those beyond 2 km. Permanent Residents are considered after citizens in each distance band.

All applications are submitted through the MOE Primary 1 Registration Portal. Parents should refer to the MOE website or the school's admissions page for exact dates and documentation requirements each year.

Curriculum and Academic Programme

Xinmin Primary School delivers the national curriculum set by MOE, covering English Language, Mathematics, Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese, Malay, or Tamil), and Science from Primary 3 onwards. Additional subjects include Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education. Foundation-level options in Mother Tongue and Mathematics are available for students who benefit from a more supported pace of learning. Higher Tamil is offered for students with stronger aptitude in the language.

In Mathematics, the school runs targeted enrichment activities for Primary 4 and Primary 5 students who demonstrate particular strength in the subject. For younger pupils in Primary 1 through Primary 4, the Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) programme provides early intervention to help build a secure foundation in numeracy and problem-solving.

Xinmin students have performed well in external mathematics competitions. At the 2024 Singapore Mathematical Kangaroo Competition (SMKC), students earned 2 Gold, 11 Silver, and 21 Bronze awards. Students have also achieved results at the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (SMOPS), and Primary 5 pupils received Merit Awards at the Raffles Science Olympiad.

The GLOBE@Xinmin ALP integrates STEM learning with environmental themes, giving students opportunities to apply mathematical reasoning and data analysis to real-world sustainability projects. For families seeking additional support in mathematics beyond the classroom, DeepThink is a math tuition centre that offers structured programmes aligned to the primary syllabus.

The school's PSLE preparation in upper primary focuses on consolidating knowledge across core subjects, with emphasis on critical thinking and examination technique in Primary 5 and Primary 6.

Facilities and Co-Curricular Activities

The Xinmin Primary School campus includes classrooms fitted with ICT tools for interactive learning, a library with a range of reading and reference materials, science laboratories, and outdoor spaces including eco-gardens that support the school's environmental education programme.

The school offers more than 15 co-curricular activities (CCAs) for students across all levels. In the sports category, options include basketball, football, and volleyball, with teams for both boys and girls depending on the sport. Performing arts CCAs comprise the choir, guzheng ensemble, modern dance, Chinese dance, and art and crafts. Uniformed groups such as Scouts, Brownies (Girl Guides), and Red Cross Youth develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership. The Environmental Science Club provides students with hands-on experience in data collection and analysis tied to sustainability topics.

Special educational needs support is available through dedicated SEN Officers who work with students on social and behavioural development, including through the P1 TRANSIT programme for new Primary 1 pupils adjusting to formal schooling. Allied educators provide additional targeted assistance where needed.

Student Life and School Culture

Daily school hours at Xinmin Primary follow the standard single-session timetable, running from approximately 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM on weekdays. Specific timing may vary by level, and after-school programmes or supplementary classes may extend beyond the regular dismissal time.

The CLOVE programme is central to student life at Xinmin. Through community service projects and leadership roles within CCAs and classroom settings, students develop confidence, empathy, and a sense of responsibility from an early age. Prefects and CCA leaders are given structured opportunities to practise decision-making and peer mentorship.

Parent involvement is encouraged through regular parent-teacher meetings, school events, and volunteer opportunities. The school maintains communication channels to keep families informed about their children's progress and upcoming activities.

Xinmin Primary follows MOE's standard uniform policy. Students wear the prescribed school uniform during school hours, and uniforms can be purchased through the school's designated supplier.

Primary education at Xinmin Primary School is free for Singapore citizens, with a monthly miscellaneous fee of up to SGD 13. Permanent Residents pay tuition fees according to MOE's published fee schedule, which is updated periodically.
